Metropolitan State University in St. Paul offers a bachelor's in alcohol and drug counseling, and bachelor's and master's in psychology. The University of Minnesota offers an undergraduate degree in psychology, as well as a doctorate with specialties including cognitive and biological psychology, industrial/organizational psychology and school psychology.
In the Minneapolis area, psychology-related occupations are growing at a healthy pace, according to forecasts through 2012. Jobs for clinical, counseling and school psychologists are expected to grow 21%, and for industrial-organizational psychologists, 27%. Community and social services occupations, which include many psychology-related fields, are expected to increase by 29% overall, including increases of 18% for educational, vocational and school counselors, 26% for substance abuse and behavioral disorder counselors, 25% for mental health counselors, and 21% for marriage and family therapists.
